Task Force Update - By Renee Manes

October Application for Certificate of Appropriateness (CA):

4822 Swiss Avenue—request for Certificate of Eligibility (CE)
November deadline for CA applications to Mark Doty, City Hall, is Thursday November 1ST, 2007.

Elizabeth Nelson brought to my attention a speech by Donovan D. Rypkema. Mr. Rypkema brings forward some remarkable statistics relating historic preservation to environmental and economic sustainability which have never occurred to me. His ideas make for interesting reading, albeit a bit long, but most enlightening.

“Sustainability means stewardship. Historic preservation is sustainable development. Development without historic preservation is not sustainable. That’s what your stewardship is assuring today, and future generations will thank you for it tomorrow.”
